Confirm your employment end date and insurance end date. Eligible people with group health coverage through current employment generally have an eight-month Part B Special Enrollment Period after employment or coverage ends, whichever happens first. Fall Open Enrollment is October 15 through December 7 for Medicare Advantage and Part D changes, generally effective January 1. If you already have Medicare Advantage, January 1 through March 31 allows one switch to another Medicare Advantage plan or a return to Original Medicare with the option to join Part D. Those changes generally start the first day of the following month. A qualifying event, such as a move or loss of coverage, may allow a change at another time.
